Matra Type is the design and research practice of typeface & graphic designer Pooja Saxena. Her work focuses on design in and for Indic scripts, notably Devanagari, and studying typographic visual languages from India.

With clients ranging from Apple and Google Fonts to Zubaan Books and the Centre for Internet & Society, recent work includes multilingual branding for a local medical practice, Gulmohar Healthcare; and custom Devanagari lettering for a literary magazine.

India Street Lettering zines celebrate the diversity of letterforms on signages in India’s streets. Like turns of a kaleidoscope, they illuminate patterns — established and unexpected — to expand our understanding of typographic forms and styles, and the conventions for their use.
